National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

A UIC working group will present findings from the National Survey of Student Engagement (https://nsse.indiana.edu/ ) that was conducted during the spring semester of 2020 at UIC before the pandemic (in February).  UIC previously participated in NSSE in 2015 and 2017. For over twenty years, NSSE has provided colleges and universities with actionable data to inform the improvement of undergraduate education. Since its inception, more than 1,600 institutions have used NSSE as a measurement tool to inform strategic plans, initiatives, program assessment and development. The survey measures engagement across four themes that includes academic challenges, learning with peers, campus environment, and experience with faculty. At UIC, we also participated in an additional NSSE survey module that captures information about the undergraduate experience with academic advising, and those findings will be shared as well.

UIC COVID-19 Institutional Response and Student Experience Survey

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) will share findings from the UIC COVID-19 Institutional Response Student Survey that collected information about the student experience with the COVID-19 crisis during the fall 2020 semester. Topics covered by the survey include the student experience with online courses and technology, faculty and student support services, institutional communications, health and wellness, and student success and retention. The survey was conducted in collaboration with a planning committee and other campus leaders, and it was a follow-up to a similar survey conducted in the spring semester of 2020.
